What to expect

Giving Days are taking higher education fundraising by storm. They are exciting, multichannel events for engaging existing and new donors. At this one day event, you will hear how Australia's - and one of the world's - leading universities have used giving days as part of their engagement strategies.
You learn what to do - and what not to do! - when planning your own giving day. Just before the event, the University of Sydney and ANU will complete their 5th and 4th giving days, respectively, so you will be the first to hear how their giving day strategies have developed.

Sessions

What not to do!

The University of Sydney ran their fourth giving day in 2017 and will be running their fifth just a week before this event! Sydney's Annual Giving team will share "what not to do!" when planning your giving day.

Elements of a successful giving day

This presentation will go through the key components that helped QUT find success with their inaugural Giving Day. Some are fairly obvious, like the vital communication plan and converting university leaders into advocates. However, some elements are more foreign to many advancement offices, e.g. utilising challenge donors to incentivise participation, a concept that had never been employed at QUT. This presentation will also go over some of the practical questions when planning for a Giving Day, such as what resources do we need in place, what kind of return on investment can we expect, and how long do we need to plan.

Going global

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem had just 6 months to coordinate 10 friends groups situated in every corner of the world for its first global giving day. The result was $1.1m USD raised from 592 donors - with gifts from over 16 countries - and help from 139 social media ambassadors.

Grassroots

ANU has run 3 giving days but their 4th will be just a day before this event! Laurelle will present the tactics she used to manage internal stakeholders and plan their giving day inline with the wider strategy of the development office and University.

Embracing Innovation - A Wearable Technology Giving Study

The University of the Sunshine Coast embraced the use of hi-tech volunteer uniforms to collect more donations and more data at their 2018 Annual Giving Day. Learn about their success in working with this innovative technology.
